Designed drill to rescue Chilean miners with SolidWorks

The Challenge


Center Rock, Inc., is a leading manufacturer of drilling supply equipment. The company’s drill bits played a significant role in the rescue of 33 Chilean miners, who were trapped 2,000 feet underground for two months at the San José Mine in Chile. To develop its industry-leading drill bit technology, the company needed 3D design and simulation tools.

The Solution


Center Rock chose SolidWorks® 3D design and simulation solutions, including SolidWorks Professional and SolidWorks Premium design software, and the SolidWorks Simulation Premium and SolidWorks Flow Simulation applications for nonlinear structural and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis.
