Nexus Design LLC performs contract product design and development work – from core concept through detailed, production-ready files – for a range of industrial, medical, and consumer products companies. Our goal is to create products that are pleasing to the eye, easy to use, and simple to manufacture. We did 2D design of complicated parts for years and knew there must be a better way. The need to move efficiently from design to tooling of plastic parts was instrumental in us choosing SolidWorks as our CAD package. The addition of SolidWorks Simulation for FEA analysis of stress details has become very valuable to us.
We evaluated several CAD packages, but chose SolidWorks CAD software because it was easy to learn and very capable. Similarly, in SolidWorks Simulation we found an integrated solution to stress/strain analysis with no separate geometry interpreters necessary and no limits on the number of nodes nor configuring of grid shape and size. The tutorials made for easy learning, so we could be effective in a number of days, and the results were consistent without widely varying based on meshing configurations. The ability to modify features easily in the feature tree to make revisions to a design concept has proven very valuable to our ability to create presentations of early concepts so we can proceed quickly. With SolidWorks eDrawings we can show prospects what the product might look like or how is going to work or fit together. It convinces them that we have a good grip on the issues.

Daka, a Hong Kong -based leading designer, developer, and marketer of inventive consumer products, set the dive propulsion vehicle (DPV) market on its head with the introduction of the SEA-DOO SEASCOOTER DPV, selling more than 100,000 units and creating a new product category in the process. The company thrives on executing a strategy based on developing innovative products that will establish new global consumer markets. Following the success of the original SEASCOOTER DPV, the group decided to pursue the broader pool accessory and family recreation market by introducing a lightweight, compact DOLPHIN water scooter.
To best achieve this goal, Daka decided to implement the SolidWorks 3D design platform to reduce development cycles and shorten time-to-market. With SolidWorks software, Daka’s design team was able to produce the DOLPHIN water scooter in just six and a half months, as opposed to the 13-month design cycle for the SEASCOOTER – a reduction of 50 percent.

The DiMonte Group performs industrial design, engineering, drafting, model shop services, and complete product development for commercial and industrial clients. The company owns several CAD systems but we went to SolidWorks to support design collaboration and ensure clear communications with clients.
We use the SolidWorks suite of engineering tools to address engineering and design concerns in all the different stages of product development to reduce time to market and solve engineering problems the first time. Communication tools like SolidWorks’ animation capabilities, SolidWorks eDrawings, and PhotoWorks are intuitive, so everyone can use them with a little training. SolidWorks eDrawings enable us to communicate clearly with clients and vendors – which is critical to reducing costs and time to market. We can annotate an eDrawing and point out where changes might provide savings during production. Clients can animate an eDrawing in 3D to see what a part really looks like. This allows them to give us feedback that improves performance – and makes the product successful before it is built.
