INTRODUCTION
A useful and powerful tool that SOLIDWORKS came out together is the Rx Utility. With SOLIDWORKS Rx, user able to record and send the recording of unusual behaviour of SOLIDWORKS like frequently crash. Additionally, SOLIDWORKS Rx also will record all log and files necessary for technical team support to diagnosis.
If you’re experiencing poor system performance, there’s a System Maintenance utility to clean up temporary files. There’s even a Diagnostics section to see if your system is running fine and your video card drivers are correct.
In others word, SOLIDWORKS Rx helps you to diagnose and understand how your current hardware and OS environment will impact on the use of SOLIDWORKS and can provide recommendations for improvement.
EXECUTION / SOLUTION
How to launch SOLIDWORKS RX?
SOLIDWORKS Rx can be opened from the Windows start menu or from the SOLIDWORKS task pane under the SOLIDWORKS Tools.
In Windows 7 and older version you will find the SOLIDWORKS Rx tool by following this path:
Windows Start > Programs > SOLIDWORKS 20xx > SOLIDWORKS Tools folder
On the newer Windows platform you can either search type in the name, if you are using Cortana, or you can manual scroll through the apps.
WHY AND WHEN TO USE SOLIDWORKS RX?
1) Gathers complete SOLIDWORKS system and event information
2) Makes it easy to send comprehensive information relating to a SOLIDWORKS problem
3) Allows technical support engineers to see what happened to cause the issue with a video created with the SOLIDWORKS Rx video capture tool
4) Allows you to review and diagnose your system
5) Provides feedback and recommendations for improving your system
6) Provides links to start SOLIDWORKS in ‘Safe Mode’ (Software Open GL mode and bypass tools, options)
7) Provides links to guides and other support information
8) Automatically creates a zip file containing all the files and information required for a Technical Support Engineer to solve the problem
When you open SOLIDWORK Rx, you will see this window:
When you open SOLIDWORK Rx, you will see this window:
Below is the explanation for each function.
The first one is ‘Click here to Launch SOLIDWORKS in OpenGL mode’. It will open a session of SOLIDWORKS that will not use on CAD video card. This can be helpful test to see if the graphic issue in SOLIDWORKS has to do with your graphics card or graphics card firmware or software.
Second tool you will see is ‘Click here to launch SOLIDWORKS while bypassing the Tools/Options settings’. Once launch the SOLIDWORKS, this tool will bypasses your SOLIDWORKS Tools and System Options, you might use this as a test to verify the SOLIDWORKS issue you are seeing is related to something you have customized in your options or something that is not functioning correctly.
SOLIDWORKS Rx Diagnostics
This will list your current hardware and system settings that affect SOLIDWORKS. Most important is the graphics card information on the very top. Go to the SOLIDWORKS video card tested website and filter through the options to get a tested SOLIDWORKS video card driver for your system. From there you can update the latest version of tested graphic card for your system.
SOLIDWORKS Rx System Maintenance
This part of the utility allows you to setup a customized cleanup of the many folders used by SOLIDWORKS and the Windows operating system. Temporary folders with much data (in the gigabyte range) can affect the performance of SolidWorks. Also, you can optionally start the “checkdisk” and “Windows Defragmenter” processes from this tab. Once you’ve selected the desired options to use, pick the “Start Maintenance” button to initiate the commands.
SOLIDWORKS Rx Problem Capture
Problem Capture allows you to document each workflow within SOLIDWORKS that may be cause of the problem and record a video of it. Alternatively, you can just package those system information files that were saved when the utility was opened. Steps that were taken in the last SOLIDWORKS session get loaded into a file and the way the program responded is contained in the “Performance Log” file. This, and the other data collected is useful for the tech support engineer to help diagnose issues with the installation.
Thus, we can conclude that SOLIDWORKS Rx is very useful for maintaining a healthy installation of SOLIDWORKS and for gathering information that can be used for troubleshooting. By familiarizing yourself with how to use the SOLIDWORKS Rx tool, you will have the diagnostic tools to communicate and solve any problems you come across.
