Did you know you can link your BOM table with Microsoft Excel?
In SOLIDWORK there are many convenient tools that can ease your job. One of them is by create link between your SOLIDWORKS drawing’s BOM table with Microsoft Excel, this help increase the efficiency of your work as you do not have to manually type in the data into your excel every time you made changes inside of your BOM in SOLIDWORKS drawing.
So how?
Well, here a simple guide for your reference:
First of all, go to the top left corner of your SOLIDWORKS application and find Insert > Tables > Excel Based Bill of Material.
After you select Excel Based Bill of Material window will pop out and ask you to choose a template for your BOM table, you can choose any template from the default SOLIDWORKS BOM tables template folder or you can choose any BOM table you had created. Here we choose bomtemp from the default folder as our BOM table format. The standard BOM consist of part number, quantity, item number and description of the component inside of your assembly’s drawing
In the table editing mode, highlight the table and then copy or on your keyboard CTRL+C.
After copy the BOM table in SOLIDWORKS go to Microsoft Excel, then under the Paste expand the feature and find Paste With Link to insert the SOLIDWORK BOM table into excel.
Now that you paste the BOM into Microsoft Excel whenever you edit in SOLIDWORKS the data within the Excel will also be modify. Figure below show the before and after modification.
