SOLIDWORKS 2020 Top 5 New Features for Your Efficiency

SOLIDWORKS 2020 Top 5 New Features

Every year, SOLIDWORKS launches hundreds and even thousands of new features in their new roll-out, and that includes this year’s all new SOLIDWORKS 2020 as well, all in the effort to help you increase productivity and efficiency in your product design process. Here, we will only be focusing on the top 5 new features that SOLIDWORKS 2020 has introduced, but rest assure that we have free hands-on workshops for both Malaysia and Singapore for more detailed explanations as well.

1. WORK FASTER WITH LARGE ASSEMBLY DRAWINGS

Large assembly drawings now comes with a Detailing Mode. You can open drawings in a matter of seconds, all while maintaining the ability to add and edit annotations. Also, there is a new feature introduced, called the Graphics Acceleration for Drawings feature. This improves frame rates when panning and zooming in/out within drawings with hardware-accelerated rendering, thus significantly reducing down time and lags when working on drawings. So even if you have multiple sheets, configurations or resource-intensive views, you can still work faster on your drawings.

2. FASTER ASSEMBLY DESIGN

SOLIDWORKS 2020 introduces a new feature called the Envelope Publisher. It will include components from a top-level assembly as envelopes in a subassembly. This way, you can select the components required for any referencing and a destination assembly. The Large Design Review Mode has also been improved, where you can create mates to the reference geometry of components, create and edit linear and circular component patterns, edit pattern-driven patterns and sketch-driven component patterns. Lastly, the Defeature tool can now create a configuration by removing details from an assembly using Silhouettes of you geometry. So, speed up your assembly design and reduce visual clutter moving forward!

3. FLEXIBLE COMPONENTS

Have you ever encounter a situation where you would like a certain component in your assembly design to be flexible where it will change according to other part movements? Well, you can do so now by making components flexible to display the same part in different conditions in the same assembly. As an example, you can show a spring being compressed or at its full length in the same assembly according to the position of other components. With this, you can create assembly designs faster while maintaining an accurate bill of material.

4. SPEED UP SKETCHING

In SOLIDWORKS Sketching, the Silhouette Entities allows you to create multiple sketch entities by projecting the outline of component bodies onto a parallel sketch plane. The Torsion Continuity Relation helps you achieve G3 curvatures between sketched curves, and thus allowing a seamless transition and a smooth surface design. You can now create even more robust sketches and design faster with SOLIDWORKS 2020.

5. FASTER CALCULATIONS AND IMPROVED ACCURACY FOR SIMULATION

SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2020 comes with more Speed and Accuracy. Speed up analysis and improve accuracy by combining linear and quadratic elements in  the same simulation study. The Pin and Bolt Connectors can now simulate deformed faces attached to Pin and Bolt Connectors for a better real-life situation analysis. Lastly, Beam Models are able to import temperatures from thermal analysis studies to perform a stress analysis on a model with beams. All these enhancements really helps you run faster calculations and better simulation of real-world behaviours.
